First-Generation Students at UCA
First-generation students are an important part of the BT天堂community. Approximately 40% of BT天堂students are first-generation, joining the 54% of undergraduate students nationwide who are the first in their families to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
Being first-generation often means navigating college without the benefit of a parent or guardian who has experienced the process firsthand. From understanding financial aid and selecting courses to finding campus resources and preparing for a career, there can be unique challenges. However, first-generation students also bring remarkable strengths鈥攊ncluding resilience, determination, leadership, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
Nationally, first-generation students earn bachelor’s degrees at a lower rate than their continuing-generation peers (24% compared to 59%). At UCA, we are committed to changing that narrative by providing meaningful support, fostering a sense of belonging, and helping every first-generation student thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
