Scholarships and Fellowships

BT天堂Foundation Scholarships:

KENNETH W. ABRAMS/PAUL W. KIMBROUGH ENDOWMENT
For full-time students from underrepresented populations majoring in Political Science or Business with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Consideration may be given to financial need.

JUDGE WOODY MURRAY MEMORIAL LAW SCHOLARSHIP
For a full-time BT天堂graduating senior who plans to attend law school. 聽Selection based on academic achievement and commitment to the profession of law as a vocation of service to humanity. 聽Preference shall be given to students who intend to practice law in the State of Arkansas. 聽Consideration shall be given to financial need.

PAUL L. REVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
For a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student pursuing a degree in history, political science or an area of public service.聽 Recipient shall have completed 24 hours at BT天堂with a minimum GPA of 3.3 and must be currently enrolled at UCA.聽 Preference shall be given to students who have demonstrated service as a veteran and/or demonstrated service in another area of public service.聽 Preference will be given to students in the Honors College.

LEE B. AND WILLA BELLE SPENCER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
For a full-time junior or senior student majoring in one of the following: English, History, Philosophy or Religion, Political Science, Sociology, or Languages/Linguistics. Selection based on academic excellence, leadership, community service and involvement in school activities. Consideration may be given to financial need. Alternates with the College of Health & Behavioral Sciences each year.

External Scholarships and Fellowships:

(U.S. Department of Education) – This program provides fellowships to students of superior academic ability鈥攕elected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise鈥攖o undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences.聽 The U.S. Department of Education awards fellowships in selected fields of study of the arts, humanities and social sciences.聽 Panels of experts appointed by the Javits Fellowship Board (Board) select fellows according to criteria established by the Board. Students must demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).聽 Subject to the availability of funds, a fellow receives the Javits fellowship annually for up to the lesser of 48 months or the completion of their degree. The fellowship consists of an institutional payment (accepted by the institution of higher education in lieu of all tuition and fees for the fellow) and a stipend (based on the fellow’s financial need as determined by the measurements of the Federal Student Assistance Processing System. In fiscal year 2010, the maximum stipend was $30,000, and the institutional payment was $13,755. In fiscal year 2011, the maximum stipend will be $30,000 and the institutional payment is estimated to be $13,755.

(The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission) – Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to fifty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. As future leaders, with a lasting understanding of British society, Marshall Scholars strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions. Marshall Scholars are talented, independent and wide-ranging, and their time as Scholars enhances their intellectual and personal growth. Their direct engagement with Britain through its best academic programmes contributes to their ultimate personal success.

(Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation) The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment.聽 In 2021, the Udall Foundation anticipates awarding 55 scholarships of up to $7,000 each.聽 The Udall Scholarship honors the legacies of Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on Native American self-governance, health care, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.

Pi Sigma Alpha awards four McManus Washington Internship Scholarships annually to members participating in political science internship programs in Washington, DC, for either the summer term or fall semester. Each scholarship is $2,000. At least one of the scholarships is reserved for a member participating in a program of 聽(TWC.) Nominations are due May 1. The recipients are announced by June 1.聽 The internship must take place in Washington, DC. It may be under the auspices of the candidate’s own institution or any other recognized internship organization, and the home institution must award academic credit for the internship.聽 Interested students should contact Dr. Joe Howard, Alpha Delta Theta Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha faculty advisor, at jhoward@uca.edu.

The Howard Penniman Scholarships for Graduate Study are awarded annually to up to five Pi Sigma Alpha members entering graduate school in political science in the upcoming academic year. Nominations must come from the chapter advisors, accompanied by an official application and supporting documents as specified in the program announcement. Nominations are due by May 1, and the winners are announced by June 15.聽 Each scholarship is $2,000.聽 Interested students should contact Dr. Joe Howard, Alpha Delta Theta Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha faculty advisor, at jhoward@uca.edu.

(The Rhodes Trust, Oxford) – The Rhodes Scholarships is awarded annually to 32 American students who pursue masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Oxford.聽 The scholarship covers tuition, fees, travel, and living expenses for up to three years.

(Rotary Foundation) – The Rotary Foundation and clubs invest in our future leaders and philanthropists by funding scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study.聽 Rotary clubs offer scholarships for secondary, undergraduate, or graduate study. Rotary club聽scholarships are given by individual clubs and are open to anyone except Rotary members and their families. Contact your local club for application information and eligibility requirements.

– The Soros Fellowship for New Americans is awarded annually to 30 students who are legal resident aliens in the U.S., who were born overseas and have become naturalized American citizens, or whose parents were both born overseas and have become naturalized American citizens for up to two years of graduate study in the U.S.聽 The fellowships cover up to $36,000 each year for tuition and living expenses.

(Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation) The Truman Scholarship is awarded annually to up to 65 undergraduate students (junior level) who plan to attend graduate or law school.聽 Each scholarship is $30,000.聽 For more information regarding the Truman Scholarship, please contact Dr. Kim Hoffman, BT天堂Truman Scholarship representative, at khoffman@uca.edu.
