The 2018 Induction Ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Fireplace Room in McCastlain Hall on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.听 Dr. Heather Yates, Assistant Professor in the BT天堂Department of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, and Danaej Brooks served as President of the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha in 2017-2018.听 Dr. Peter Mehl, Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at UCA, welcomed the students and guests to the induction ceremony.听 Dr. Clay Arnold, Chairperson of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, presided over the induction ceremony.

Twenty-one political science students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Aaron Anderson, Carolyn Casey, Joshua Eddinger-Lucero, Gregory Eichelberger, Emily Evans, Jesi Feld, Caleb Gibby, Corban Gotcher, Evan Hamling, Bethany Hays, Kylee Horst, Chad Jones, Stephen Kelley, Cagney Kilgroe, Hawa Nouhou Abarchi, Austin Powell, Raegan Sharp, Keely Smith, Alexandra Taylor, Jacob Thomas, and Itzel Velazquez.听 The Chairman of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, Dr. Clay Arnold, also presented the Robin Gifford with the BT天堂Department of Political Science鈥檚 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award.听 Mrs. Gifford has served in a variety of governmental administrative positions in Arkansas since graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration in 2005.听 She is currently serving as a Program Administrator for the Arkansas State Police.

The BT天堂Department of Political Science’s Alpha Delta Theta Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha (PSA), the national political science honor society, hosted the “Pizza & Politics” series during Spring Semester 2018.听 PSA was founded in 1920 and includes more than 500 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

The “Pizza & Politics” series featured BT天堂administrators and faculty, as well as local public officials, who spoke on a variety of topics related to political science, including state and local government & politics.听 The featured speakers included BT天堂President Houston Davis, whose undergraduate degree was in political science at Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis); Dr. Donna Lampkin Stephens of the BT天堂School of Communication; Conway Mayor Bart Castleberry; and BT天堂Associate Vice President Shelley Mehl.

The “Pizza & Politics” series was held in the Fire Place Room of McCastlain Hall during x-period on January 30th, February 13th, March 15th, and April 17th.听 All interested BT天堂faculty, staff, and students were invited to attend.听 Political Science student Denaej Brooks served as the President of UCA’s chapter of PSA in 2017-2018.听 Dr. Heather Yates in the Department of Political Science served as the faculty advisor.

The 2017 Induction Ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Fireplace Room in McCastlain Hall on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor in the BT天堂Department of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, and Danielle Casey served as President of the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha in 2016-2017.听 Dr. Maurice A. Lee, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at UCA, welcomed the students and guests to the induction ceremony.听 Dr. Clay Arnold, Chairperson of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, presided over the induction ceremony.

Eight students BT天堂students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Abby Anderson, Alexander Battaglia, Denaej Brooks, France Galloh, Jordan Johnson, Ellen McKinnie, Michelle Moore, and Katelyn Wood.听 The Chairman of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, Dr. Clay Arnold, also presented the Honorable Brian Miller with the BT天堂Department of Political Science鈥檚 2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award.听 Judge Brian Miller, who graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from BT天堂in 1992, has served as Chief U.S. District Court Judge of the Eastern District of Arkansas since 2012.听 He was nominated to serve as a Judge on the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Arkansas by President George W. The 2016 Induction Ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor in the BT天堂Department of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, and Katelyn Wilkins served as President of the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha in 2015-2016.听 Dr. Maurice A. Lee, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at UCA, welcomed the students and guests to the induction ceremony.

Nine BT天堂students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Jean Francois Adoupo, Danielle Casey, Jillian Casper, Laura Craig, Eric Durham, Meredith Herring, Casey Jean-Elliott Johnson, Maleka Momand, and Bryce Moore.听 The Chairman of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, Dr. Clay Arnold, also presented Janet Harris with the BT天堂Department of Political Science鈥檚 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award.听 Janet Harris, who graduated with a bachelors degree in public administration from BT天堂in 1995, served as Deputy Auditor of the State of Arkansas (2011-2015) and Deputy Secretary of State of the State of Arkansas (2003-2011).听 She currently serves as Director of Programs at The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute (2016-present).

 

The 2015 Induction Ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor in the BT天堂Department of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, and Melissa Cornwell served as President of the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha in 2014-2015.

Twelve BT天堂students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Austin Ardwin, Kayla Close, Stephanie Daigle, Richard Frizzel, Matthew Goss, Laura Holzhauer, Hayden Knox, Brady Shiers, Kenneth Stice, Jesus Torres, Mallory Walker, and Katelyn Wilkins.听 The Chairman of the BT天堂Department of Political Science, Dr. Clay Arnold, also presented Preston Scroggin with the BT天堂Department of Political Science’s 2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award.听 Preston Scroggin, who graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from BT天堂in 1989, served as Director of the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission (2013-2015) and Faulkner County Judge (2007-2013).

The 2014 induction ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on April 17, 2014.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha.听 Eleven BT天堂students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Bryan Altman, Bethany Bell, Tess Bradford, Seth Bradley, Jill Carlson, Melissa Cornwell, Katie Farely, Felipe Fernandez, Julius Gerard, Stephanie Gray, and Juan Mayen.听 During the ceremony, Tab Townsell, Mayor of the City of Conway, was presented the BT天堂Department of Political Science’s Distinguished Alumnus award.听 Tab Townsell graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from BT天堂in 1983.听 Blake Brizzolara (Political Science) and Bethany Bell (International Studies) were honored as the Department of Political Science “Outstanding Student” award winners for 2013-2014.

 

The 2013 induction ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society,听 was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on April 18, 2013.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha.听 Eight BT天堂students were formally inducted during the ceremony, including Blake Brizzolara (Political Science), Andrew Harris (International Studies), Benjamin Lykins (Public Administration), Derrick Moses (International Studies), Cory Nelson (Public Administration), Timothy Scott (International Studies), Forrest Stobaugh (Political Science), and Shastady Williams (Political Science).

The 2012 induction ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society, was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on April 18, 2012.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Associate Professor of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha.听 The chapter’s officers in 2011-2012 were Ben Maddox (President), Naruhiko Tsukuda (Vice-President), Sara Bayles (Secretary), and Hitomi Kawakami (Treasurer).听 Nine BT天堂students –听Raymond Terry, Jack Phillips, Emily O’Neal, Willis Arnold, Brett Roberts, Brittani Burnette, Brandi Starnes, Wendy Marin and Shannon Kelly – were formally inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha during the ceremony.

The 2011 induction ceremony for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honor Society, was held in the Mirror Room in McAlister Hall on April 21, 2011.听 Dr. Joseph Howard, Assistant Professor of Political Science, served as Faculty Adviser for the BT天堂Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha.听 The chapter’s officers in 2010-2011 were Mitchell Adams (President), Ben Maddox (Vice-President), Sara Bayles (Secretary), and Jordan Dunn (Treasurer).听 The BT天堂Department of Political Science “Outstanding Students” for 2010-2011 were Adam Williams (Public Administration), Jared Bridgeman (Political Science), and Nicholas Rogers & Matthew Severs (International Studies).
