CONWAY â The University of Central Arkansasâs Department of Music will host a Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band concert on Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The 7:30 p.m. concert, free and open to the public, should last approximately an hour and a half. A brief intermission will take place during the transition between the two groups.
âThe concert will be very entertaining,â Dr. Ricky Brooks, director of UCAâs Wind Ensemble, said. âSome concerts are intellectual, some are historical, but this concert is entertaining. It has a lot of variety.â
The Wind Ensemble program will include a jazz influence, âPassage,â by Scott Lindroth, conducted by Les Sellers, graduate conducting intern; âConcert Etude no. 49â featuring Eric Liu, trumpet soloist; âHill Song no. 2â by Grainger; âAngels in the Architectureâ by Frank Ticheli, featuring Baylee Elkins, a student vocalist; and âPurple Pageant Marchâ by Karl King.
âThe trio of the âPurple Pageant Marchâ will be familiar to some audience members because it is the BTĚěĚĂfight song,â Brooks said. ââAngels in the Architectureâ is our showcase piece. âHill Song no. 2â will feature 23 players, and each player has a separate part.â
Liu is one of three winners of the 2013-14 BTĚěĚĂStudent Spotlight concerto competition.
âThe Student Spotlight Competition is an annual competition designed to feature some of the many talented members of the BTĚěĚĂWind Ensemble,â Brooks said.
The Symphonic Band program, under the direction of Brantley Douglas, will include âSlava,â âSavannah River Holiday,â âDynamica,â and âConcertino,â featuring Christian Carichner of the BTĚěĚĂmusic faculty as a euphonium soloist.
