CONWAY â The University of Central Arkansasâ University Chorus will present a mixture of sacred and secular pieces during a âWith a Song and a Prayerâ-themed concert Thursday, April 24.
The 7:30 p.m. concert, free and open to the public, will be in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
Dr. Sheri Cook-Cunningham, visiting assistant professor of music education, said the many talents of the BTĚěĚĂmusic students will be on display in the concert.
âThe concert starts out with two secular selections from the Renaissance era and then moves to a sacred piece by Mozart,â she said. âThere are several sacred pieces within the concert, and I hope the audience enjoys the combination of both sacred and secular music.â
UCAâs ensemble will perform âTutto Lo Di Mi Dici âCantaââ by Orland di Lasso; âFair Phyllisâ by John Farmer; âAve Verum Corpusâ by W.A. Mozart; âHiney Mah Tov,â arranged by Iris Levine; âAnimal Crackersâ by Eric Whitacre; âGo Down Moses,â arranged by Mark Hayes; âPirate Songâ by Tim Y. Jones; âClockâ by Israel Carlisle; âThe Argumentâ by Francis J. Nesta; âNada te Turbeâ by Joan Szymko; âDance on My Heartâ by Allen Koepke; and âPraise His Holy Nameâ by Keith Hampton.
University Chorus will debut a piece written by a BTĚěĚĂgraduate theory student, Israel Carlisle, who will also conduct his song.
Maggie Ashburn, assistant director of the chorus, will conduct two songs. Three undergraduate student conductors will lead during the concert.
âWe will also be featuring our string students in a string quartet accompaniment to the âAve Verum Corpusâ as well as several other instrumental students,â Cook-Cunningham said.
University Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble composed of interested students on campus from any major.
