CONWAY â The University of Central Arkansasâs Department of Music will host a band concert on Wednesday, April 24, in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The 7:30 p.m. concert, free and open to the public, should last approximately 90 minutes with a brief intermission.
The University Band will play first and the Symphonic Band will conclude the concert.
âThe theme for the University Band portion is âA Day at the Circusâ and will feature music associated with the circus, including âCircus Days Marchâ, âCarnival of the Animalsâ and âDream Circus,ââ said Brantley Douglas, associate director of bands.
The Symphonic Band portion of the concert program will feature the music of George Gershwin. Music will include selections from his opera âPorgy and Bessâ, highlights from âAn American in Parisâ and âThe Second Rhapsody.â Terrie Shires will be a guest soloist on piano during âThe Second Rhapsody.â
âLeslie Sellers is the graduate conducting student who will be directing the majority of the University Band portion of the concert,â Douglas said. âSenior music education student Barrett Parten will also guest-direct the University Band. I will be directing a concert suite from âCirque Du Soleilâ in addition to conducting the Symphonic Band in the all-Gershwin program.â
