The University of Central Arkansas will host its third annual 鈥淪taging Your Future at BT天堂Theatre鈥� for high school students in grades 9-12, potential college transfer students and teachers on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The event, sponsored by Conway Corporation, will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center.
Registration is free, and lunch will be provided to all participants. Registration ends on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Students will attend two workshops, have lunch and then watch a BT天堂Theatre performance of 鈥淭he Liar鈥� by David Ives, adapted from 鈥淟e Menteur鈥� by Pierre Corneille.
The 2016 workshops will include Auditions, Basic Saw Safety, Broad Comedy, Costume Design for 鈥淭he Liar,鈥� Costume Design on the iPad, Create a Play in 50 Minutes, How to be a Playwright, Improv, Musical Theatre, Set Exploration, Shakespeare Theatre, Stage Combat, Tai Chi for Actors and Theatre for Social Justice. Professional development credit is available for participating teachers.
鈥淭he Liar鈥� is a comedy that takes place in Paris in 1643. Dorante, the eponymous quasi-villain of the play, meets two women (Clarice and Lucrece) in the Tuileries in Paris and impresses them with his claim to have returned recently from the wars in Germany, about which he boasts of the vital role he played. After they leave, he decides to court Clarice, mistakenly thinking her name to be that of her friend, Lucrece.
