The University of Central Arkansas unveiled its new collegiate license plate and recognized scholarship donors during the BT天堂Foundation Scholarship Reception on Oct. 7 at McCastlain Hall.
Donors met with students who received a private scholarship this academic year. There were 283 privately funded scholarships, totaling more than $426,000.
“I want to compliment the Alumni Association for the role they play in this important process,” said Shelley Mehl, vice president of advancement. “The Alumni Association awards seven other scholarships. In celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the BT天堂Alumni Association, they have initiated a fund raising campaign to fully endow the remaining four scholarships.”
BT天堂President Allen C. Meadors thanked the donors for their generosity.
“This is always an exciting and rewarding event, where our scholarship recipients have the opportunity to meet the wonderful individuals who have made their scholarships a reality,” he said.
University officials also revealed the new BT天堂license plate during the reception. The new license plate displays the revamped athletic logo.
More than 85% of the proceeds from the license plates go directly to fund academic scholarships for deserving students.
“This is an excellent partnership with the state of Arkansas,” Meadors said.聽“Our alums and friends can show their BT天堂pride by purchasing Bear plates and help fund scholarships for our students.”
The BT天堂License Plate Program Scholarship is a great way to promote BT天堂and to help a legacy student, Mehl said.
The BT天堂License Plate Program Scholarship is awarded to full-time students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and who is child or grandchild of a BT天堂graduate.聽 Each applicant must have demonstrated leadership and service and submit a 250-300 word essay explaining their choice of field of study.
Fourteen recipients were awarded scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. Officials hope to see an increase in purchases of the license plates, which would provide more scholarships to students.
The BT天堂license plate can be purchased through any Arkansas Revenue Office.聽 The BT天堂Foundation receives $25 from each plate purchased. The purchase of the plate is recognized as a tax-deductible contribution.
