The University of Central Arkansas Department of Music will present the BTPercussion Ensemble in concert Nov. 7, 2018.
The performance is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Admission is free to the public.
The concert will feature special guest percussionist, Ivan Trevino, a multi-award winning Mexican-American composer whose blend of contemporary, percussive and indie-rock compositions have become standard repertoire in the field of percussion.
The ensemble will be performing several of Trevino’s works, including Catching Shadows, Space Junk, Thank You, Hold Fast, Six and PUNX!
The BTPercussion Ensemble is made of about 20 students, mostly music performance and music education majors, and is directed by Dr. Blake Tyson, professor of percussion.
“I’m excited to have Ivan on campus. My students have performed his music for many years and they are all looking forward to having the chance to work with him.” Tyson said. “In addition to being an immensely talented musician, he is also a kind human being who always shares his positivity with others. He’ll be on campus for two days and will work with the students in clinics and masterclasses as well as in rehearsals.”
Trevino was a founding member of the cello and percussion quartet Break of Reality, and his work with the ensemble has been heard on PBS, Huffington Post, Yahoo Music and is on regular rotation on NPR.
Ivan Trevino’s visit to BTis being made possible by the BTPercussion Club, the BTStudent Government Association and the BTDepartment of Music.
