Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BT天堂is the second-largest department of its kind in Arkansas. Our mission is to serve the region, state, and nation by providing high-quality programs in computer science and engineering. Our department is recognized for its high standards of education, cutting-edge research, state-of-the-art facilities, award-winning faculty, and dedicated staff.

We offer programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, the Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, the Bachelor of Science in Data Science, the Master of Science in Computer Science,听补 minor in Computer Science, a minor in Cybersecurity, and a minor in Data Science.

Bear Facts About the Department

  • We have about 400 students, making us the fourth-largest department at BT天堂and the second-largest department of its kind in the state.
  • We have 13 full-time faculty members and two full-time staff members.
  • We offer nearly 30 classes each fall and spring, and about 10 classes each summer.
  • Our BS program in Computer Science started in 1980.聽The program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of聽, under the commission鈥檚 General Criteria and Program Criteria for Computer Science.聽Our program is one of the four ABET-accredited programs of its kind in Arkansas.
  • Our BS program in Cybersecurity started in 2018.聽The program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of聽, under the commission鈥檚 General Criteria and Program Criteria for Cybersecurity.聽Our program is the only ABET-accredited program of its kind in Arkansas.
  • Our BS program in Software Engineering is the first of its kind in Arkansas.
  • We have three recognized student organizations (RSOs): the Computer Science Club, the聽Cybersecurity Club, and Girls Who Code.
  • Thanks to our central location and proximity to the state capital, we have many IT employers around us. These companies provide our students with paid internships and employment opportunities. Our graduates have also taken jobs at internationally recognized companies such as Amazon, Apple, Expedia, FedEx, HP,聽Intel, LinkedIn, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Pfizer, Shopify, and Verizon.
  • We are one of the most research-active departments at UCA.
  • We have one of the few educational cyber ranges in the US.
