During the week of October 20th through 24th, 2014, the office of Student Wellness and Development will present the “I Choose” Campaign for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Week. BT天堂student participants will hold signs with their personal messages written on them to explain why prevention is important and what they choose instead.聽

Student Wellness And Development Office To Partner With Student Health Clinic For GYT
During the month of October, the office of Student Wellness and Development is partnering with the Student Health Clinic for the annual GYT “Get Yourself Tested” Campaign. Free STD screenings will be available to BT天堂students, and students who get a free screening at the clinic can enter to win a Fitbit.

Jazz Ensembles To Perform Tribute Concert
The University of Central Arkansas Jazz Ensembles will perform a tribute concert for Dr. Jerry Manion, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
The concert is free and open to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Two BT天堂student bands will perform: Jazz Ensemble I and the Dixieland Band.
The bands will pay tribute to Manion, a member of the BT天堂Dixieland Band for more than 35 years and chemistry professor at UCA, who died on July 18, 2014.
鈥淲e want to honor him and have a tribute concert for him,鈥 said Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone and director of the Dixieland Band.
Lamar has made plans for 鈥渁 photo-montage鈥 of Manion to be showing on a television screen in the lobby.鈥
The Dixieland Band performance will include songs from the traditional New Orleans-style era. Lamar said the band would play 鈥淥h, Didn鈥檛 He Ramble鈥 by Will Handy, 鈥淛ust a Closer Walk With Thee鈥 a traditional gospel tune and most popular New Orleans funeral dirge, 鈥淗ard Hearted Hannah鈥 by Jack Yellen, 鈥淪t. James Infirmary鈥 by Joe Primrose and 鈥淪wing Low Sweet Chariot/When The Saints Go Marching In鈥 by Luther Presley and Virgil O. Stamps.
Alumni members of the band are encouraged to participate in the performance of the band鈥檚 traditional version of 鈥淪wing Low Sweet Chariot鈥 and 鈥淲hen the Saints Go Marching In鈥.
Songs by Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Larry Jones, include 鈥淪truttin鈥 with Some Barbecue鈥 by Louis Armstrong, 鈥淜ing Porter Stomp鈥 by Jelly Roll Morton, 鈥淏asie鈥檚 Buddy B鈥 by John LaBarbara, and 鈥淗unting Wabbits鈥 by Gordon Goodwin.
The BT天堂Dixieland Band was formed in the fall of 1975 by now retired BT天堂music professor Patrick Hasty.聽 The group performs concerts on campus as well as provides music for cultural and civic events in the surrounding area. 聽The ensemble blends all styles of Dixieland music, from Early New Orleans Style to Chicago Style and beyond.

BT天堂Alumna and Conway Artist Receives Award in Delta Exhibition
Jessica Camp, Fall 2013 BFA Studio Art: Painting Emphasis, had work accepted for the 2014 Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center. 聽 Camp is a BT天堂alumna and her work was exhibited in the Baum Gallery. 聽The work selected was聽Weeping Lamentation聽from her BFA Senior Exhibition. 聽She won an honorable mention award in the 56th annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.
BT天堂Chapter of ArMHCA To Host Mental Illness Equality Event
In honor of mental health awareness week, the BT天堂chapter of ArMHCA (Arkansas Mental Health Counseling Association) is hosting an event, Tuesday October 7th, 2014 during X-period in Ida Waldron Auditorium. The title is Equality For All: Removing the Stigma of Mental Illness. Speakers are Angie Bowen- LPC, President of Arkansas Mental Health Counseling Association and Annette Woodruff- LCSW, C-ASWCM, Former President of Arkansas Social Workers Association.
