Freshman Journey

Beginning of Each Semester

  • Join Bear Life (Summer – August 30 or December 15 – Jan 15)
  • Stop by the Student Success and Veterans Resource Center to pick up a free Academic Planner (Welcome Week – August 30)
  • Review Brightspace for your online coursework.
  • Read the class syllabus: Identify Contact Info, Office Hours, Textbook and Course materials, Homework and Lecture Policies, Course Calendar, Grading Rubric, and Absentee policy.
  • Make time to go meet with your professor(s) during their office hours to get to know them a little better.  You can see how you are doing and how you can do better in that class (Meet with at least one professor per day)

Early Semester/Mid-Semester

  • Explore the Study Map on the BTÌìÌÃResource Map
  • Make a tutoring appointment in the
  • Make a plan to study in the Tutoring and Academic Success Center (TASC), the Library, or somewhere other than your room at least twice a week
  • Complete these and other
    • How to Navigate Campus, get support, and advocate for yourself
    • Time Management Strategies for Success
    • Understanding and Avoiding Plagiarism
  • Attend one or more in-person Academic Success Workshops
  • Attend Advising’s Majors Fair (October)
  • Schedule an advising appointment for Spring Advanced Registration (October/March)
  • Make time to find a club to join in
  • Attend at least TWO activities in your LLC

Late Semester

  • Review your syllabi for due dates and final exam dates
  • Plan your study schedule for final exams and projects, and make tutoring appointments as needed
  • Organize group study sessions or attend one in the Tutoring and Academic Success Center (TASC)
