UCA’s Occupational Therapy department collaborated with the聽Physical Therapy and Exercise & Sport Science on a Falls Awareness, Education, and Prevention Emphasis Week in conjunction with the 9th National Falls Awareness Campaign.
The department has been involved since 2012, but聽this is the first time it has had an inter-professional emphasis.
National Falls Awareness Day was September 22, 2016, and around聽140 students in inter-professional teams traveled聽to facilities in the central Arkansas region (primarily Faulkner, Pulaski, and surrounding counties) where they made聽presentations about falls, fall risks, and ways to prevent falls.
The demonstrations were聽interactive with participants engaging in educational sessions, exercises, and activities (occupations) that helped them learn about falls and fall prevention.
